We can stop the spread of HIV. Angelina County and Cities Health District is here to fight the fear and stop the stigma.
Podemos detener el VIH. Te vemos. Te escuchamos. Estamos aquí para ayudarte a permanecer saludable.
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. If left untreated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). Most people who get HIV get it through sex. People who share needles when using drugs are also at high risk.
There is no cure for HIV. Once you get it, you have it for life. But HIV isn’t a life sentence.
With proper medical care, HIV can be controlled. If you have HIV, effective treatment can help you live a long, healthy life. There are also treatments that can protect your partner by reducing the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99% when taken daily.
At ACCHD, our focus is on helping you take control, not chances. Today there are more tools than ever to prevent HIV. Two of the most effective – knowledge and condoms – are easily available here at ACCHD.
ACCHD offers simple HIV testing. The only way to know if you have HIV is to get tested. The CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should get tested for HIV at least once, and people who are at higher risk should get tested more often. Sexually active gay and bisexual men may benefit from more frequent testing (for example, every 3 to 6 months).
ACCHD offers free condoms. Used correctly every time you have sex, condoms are highly effective in preventing HIV. Please take as many as you need.
ACCHD can also connect you with health care and medication that can let you live and love without limits. In addition, we also provide access to services that can help prevent the spread of HIV. ACCHD can help connect you with housing assistance, counseling, substance abuse treatment and other services that can help improve your quality of life and your ability to manage your health.
Here at ACCHD, we see you, we hear you, and we’re here to help you stay healthy. Please call (936) 633-1438 for more information.
