Angelina County and Cities Health District provides vision and hearing screenings. Children and teens should have their vision and hearing screened during every regular check-up, because about a quarter of all school-aged children have a significant vision problem and two to three out of every 1,000 children are born with hearing impairments. Vision and hearing problems can impact a child’s development, academic performance and overall well-being.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends periodic objective hearing screening for newborns and at various ages between four and 18 years.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that children have their eyes checked by a pediatrician at least once a year.
