Our community is rich with natural areas to recreate and enjoy the piney woods. We are surrounded by the beautiful Angelina and Davy Crockett National Forests, the magnificent Lake Sam Rayburn, the mystic Angelina and Neches Rivers, and a number of amazing Wildlife Management Areas. All these special places offer a wide assortment of recreational activities.
Walking is a great way to get the physical activity needed to obtain health benefits. Walking does not require any special skills and it does not require gym membership or expensive equipment. The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend that adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity, or an equivalent combination each week. (The guidelines also recommend that children and adolescents be active for at least 60 minutes every day).
So whether you like to hunt, fish, hike, bike, canoe, ride horses, photograph wildlife, watch the birds, camp, or swim, you can do it all right here in Angelina County. We encourage all of our residents and visitors to get outside, be physically active, and enjoy the incredible landscape we call home here in Lufkin and Angelina County.
